An Update on Deworming Practices

This article from, posted Friday, was interesting to me because it showed a change in the paradigm used for deworming horses for the last fifty years.

Sometimes change comes slowly, but it is nice to see it happening. Vaccinations and medications can be over-used, no matter what species you use them on.

The Past, Present, and Future of Equine Deworming ( "Horse owners should be saying 'bye, bye' to the outdated practice of calendar-based rotational deworming," says Hoyt Cheramie, DVM, MS, equine specialist for Merial's Large Animal Veterinary Services. "We have new science that tells us there is a better, more effective way to control parasites in horses."
